Baby And Me

Very often when people give gifts it is to celebrate some kind of special occasion like a birthday or Christmas. But there is one event that must supersede all others, and that is the birth of a precious child. The birth of the next generation is perhaps the most blessed and exciting event in anyone's life and will usually be accompanied by a flurry of gift giving par excellence.

Everyone wants to get in on the act, including colleagues, family members and especially the grandparents. This is perhaps one of those occasions when nothing is too much for the much awaited child or children. The cost of the gift, naturally, is not as important as what the gift conveys. If it is something for the child to wear, then it must be the best. If it is something that the child will eventually play with then most people will choose something with a little educational twist so that the child can explore and learn.

For those with many family members and friends, it may be a good idea to try to organize a little. After all, the baby won't stay small for very long and what is the use of having huge amounts of clothes that the baby will only wear once or not at all? Try to organize gifts so that a certain number gives gifts suitable for the first six months to one year in the baby's life. The next group gives gifts suitable for the next six months or one year and so on. Many people won't mind doing this because they would want their gift to be well loved and used. Indeed, many people, especially women who are already mothers, will know this well in advance and will act accordingly. But for those who are not aware of this small problem, drop gentle hints or discuss well before the baby arrives so that ‘mistakes' are kept to a minimum.

Perhaps the gift that tops all others is the personalized gift. For the giver to take time to have the gift engraved or embroidered is showing how much care has gone into choosing that particular gift and the parents can be a little overwhelmed, albeit in a good way, at the kindness and generosity shown by their circle of family and friends. This will always be an emotional time for them especially if it is a first child. They have now become a ‘family' and as such, emotions will run deep.

So what is the perfect gift for this much longed for little person? Well, there are multiple ideas for the perfect gift. Personalized gifts say something a little more and are really treasures to keep perhaps forever. Clothes with the baby's initials embroidered on are big favorites as are those with the whole name etched on.

Most people will opt for the basket full of goodies for the child. Sleep sets, cuddly toys, embroidered bath towels and tiny slippers etc are all firm favorites for the first baby. Some high end gift sets come with a beautifully designed first dress with the baby girl's initial embroidered on the front. This dress, added to the gorgeously scented baby bath commodities make for an excellent gift that Mom will appreciate very much.

Another high end gift is a designer gift set by Fattamano which must be every chic and stylish parent's choice for the new little one. High quality items like a hat, blanket, photo frame and booties etc come packed in an elegant French hat box for keeping all the baby's little keepsakes. This set can also be personalized and is perhaps one of the most beautiful of baby sets ever.

Twins are not left out of the bumper bonanza either. Many gift sets come with the ‘something for now and something for later' idea. Two teddies, two bath sets and two sets of bodysuits etc along with two mini wagons for them to play with when they get older. These sets come with all kinds of the ‘later' ideas like wicker rocking chairs for when they are old enough to sit up on their own.

Some gift packs or baskets also come with funny little outfits that only a baby could get away with. Elephant soft toys come with all the usual accoutrements plus a baby sized coat with an elephant head hood that is too cute for words. Won't this make a lovely photo opportunity to bring embarrassment to the child/adult in later years?

One of the more unusual gifts on offer to commemorate the baby's birth is something that can be borrowed from the wedding gifts list. What do people appreciate more than a beautifully posed photo of the newborn, perhaps with Mom or Mom and Dad? This photo mounted in a superbly elegant frame but with a little difference. It comes complete with a metal surround so that people can sign their names on or add messages of love, with a special scribe pen. Family members or groups of close friends can sign their well wishes and names to the photo frame and this is a lasting keepsake for the birth, or for the baby shower preceding the birth. What a lovely way to share the joy of childbirth with those closest to the family.

Finally, let's not forget the proud parents. After the trauma and excitement surrounding the great arrival, both Mom and Dad will be thoroughly wrung out. Wouldn't it be nice to send them something special as well? After all, aren't they the ones who started all this excitement?

Surely they would love to receive a beautifully wrapped gourmet gift basket with all kinds of goodies like exotic roasted coffee beans, delicate teas, exquisitely delicious chocolates, sausages, biscuits and unusual crisps to name but a few. These baskets can come wrapped with a personalized ribbon to show the parents that they have not been forgotten in all the excitement. Sounds like a great idea for a bedroom picnic!
